Gunslinger – A Musical Journey to The Dark Tower: Volume 1

(Update 02/23/2017, First single is now released and available everywhere! (iTunes, Spotify, Google PlayTidal, Bandcamp, CD Baby, etc)
Gunslinger – A Musical Journey to The Dark Tower: Volume 1.

How does that title sound?  You may have noticed that I recently posted the following track to my Soundcloud page.  If you missed it, here it is!

I have always wanted to do a musical interpretation of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, but I was holding out till I could do some equipment and software upgrades. However, during a Facebook Live session on 1-16-2017 I was working on something from scratch and it was very close to the sound I wanted to produce for this Dark Tower series, so I decided to polish it up and begin the journey. It sparked in my mind the various themes I want to include for the various characters in the series.

Wait, so you’re gong to do a musical interpretation of the ENTIRE Dark Tower series? That’s certainly something extremely ambitious”  Yes it is, and yes that’s my goal.

Obviously this is not something that’s going to all be flying out at everyone this year.  This is a multi year project, and in between I’ll still be releasing the occasional ambient styled and chill out styled albums I have released before.  However, I play to have one Dark Tower release each year.

I’ll be doing another read through of the series while I take detailed notes and form the themes throughout the series. My current plan is to have 1 release per book in the series.  The names of the releases won’t match exactly to the titles of the book, but will be close.  For example, my thoughts on the title for the first release is the title of this post, “Gunslinger – A Musical Journey to The Dark Tower: Volume 1”.  We’ll see if that sticks.

So with that said, here is my “Tentative” release schedule for these.  Of course, if inspiration hits early and work is completed early this will adjust.

  1. The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger – 2017
  2. The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three – 2018
  3. The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands – 2019
  4. The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass – 2020
  5. The Dark Tower: The Wind Through the Keyhole – 2021
  6. The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla – 2022
  7. The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah – 2023
  8. The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower – 2024

You’ll notice that I include The Wind Through the Keyhole in the middle of the main books as it is set chronologically between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla.

This track, Life for your crop, that I’m sharing with you represents a common theme that will be carried out with the series.  A sort of march or cadence to follow us along through the journey.

For your father’s sake, listen. I will set my watch and warrant on it that you will enjoy.

I can’t wait to share more with you from the music of Mid-World.

Thankee Sai!

What’s New

It’s been a while since I’ve posted for the official newsletter, so I thought I would take a few moments and update you on what’s been going on.  Before I get into too much detail, could you do me a favor?  I’m trying to get to at least 250 followers on Spotify and I’m hoping you can help me! Once I get to 250 followers, Spotify will “verify” my account, which opens up some cool possibilities for my music, and I’ll also be able to keep you updated whenever I release new songs or playlists there, so if you have a second, please click on this link, and choose “Follow” to follow me on Spotify!

Ok, so with that out of the way… It’s the new year and when I reflect back on what I did during 2016, it’s actually quite impressive music wise.

2016 saw no less than 5 album releases from me.  Here’s a breakdown of what I did as far as releases go in 2016

So as you can see, some of the material was re-releases, but they were more than just a repackaging of the same material.  Be sure to see the details on their respective pages.

I also changed jobs during 2016, and returned to Microsoft after being away for nearly 10 years. With the holidays and re-acclimating myself back into an Escalation Engineer position, I can’t say that I was able to do too much on the music side of the house, but I did start preparations of new material.  You can check these out on bandcamp here:

The above are works in progress, and of course subject to change before mass distribution, but decided to give you a test of what is to come in 2017.

What’s Next

Here’s a list of things I’m working on next and what’s in store for the future!

I have a ton of material that I really need to focus on promoting.  As you can see from above, quite a bit of new material came in 2016, so it’s time to really get the word out about these releases.

Of course, I’ll continue to work on new material and give you a shout out when I think things are ready for listening. And with that, don’t forget about following me on Spotify! That would really help right now!

History of Musical Influences

I want to continue in reviving my History of Musical Influences posts, so I’m going to dedicate some time throughout the year to move forward with that.

One World Music Radio Presenter

I’ve decided to try my hand at putting together a monthly broadcast/podcast hosted by the good folks at One World Music Radio.  I’m calling the show “The Sands of Time” in which I’ll be presenting select songs from those musical influences I mention above.  Of course, I’ll include a few select tracks from my albums during each show. Stay tuned to hear about the first episode which will be airing soon!

And lastly, as I’ve made mention of before, I’ve started a collaboration project with my fellow SharePointer and Musician friend Geoff Varaosky which we call VR.  Be sure to read more about that by clicking here!

Read the review of Mister Stichs by Candice Michelle of Journeyscapes Radio!
“Not only is ‘Mister Stichs’ impressively reminiscent of a John Carpenter film score, the album also greatly reminds me of Tangerine Dream (whom Keith is likewise admirable of). He makes fantastic use of modern and vintage synthesizers, along with riveting and realistic-seeming surround-sound effects that boasts continually alternating intervals of serenity and suspense. Proving once again that Keith Richie easily ranks among today’s best electronic music composers, ‘Mister Stichs’ is not to be missed, especially, by fans of both John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream!”  ~Candice Michelle

March of the Inanimate – Repossessed
An Original ‘N’otion Picture Soundtrack by Keith Richie

March of the Inanimate - Repossessed Cover

“A man possessed by the desire to live searches an abandoned home for a lost treasure that could hold the key to the mystery of mastering death. However, when he finally finds what he is looking for, he uncovers a power far more sinister than he could have ever imagined.
As he tries to escape the entities that have come to devour his greed-laden soul, he finds himself unable to bear the weight of his own corrupted consciousness.
Can he find a way to shrug the burden of his sins? Or will he be destroyed by the creatures that march upon him with unseeing eyes?”
March of the Inanimate – Repossessed is the 2016 re-mastered and extended edition of the 2014 album March of the Inanimate. It pays homage to the classic horror movie soundtracks produced by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth who co-wrote the music to classics such as Halloween, the Fog, and numerous others.
This 2016 version includes 3 additional tracks crafted within re-mastered versions of the original audio story to enhance the listening experience.
I hope you enjoy the music!
